Scroll reporter detained covering Delhi protests

Scroll reporter Ayush Tiwari was among those detained by Delhi Police on Saturday amid heightened security in the national capital ahead of a protest by youth groups demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to a report by Scroll, Tiwari was detained near ITO while reporting on the chaos in Delhi. He was not at the protest site at Jantar Mantar and had his press card prominently displayed when the police detained him.

Despite repeatedly informing the police that he was a journalist, Tiwari was put into a police van and taken away.

“I literally shouted out to say I am a journalist,” Tiwari said. “But the police said everyone is claiming to be a journalist.”
