Delhi protest: Dhruv Rathee detained by Delhi police

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was detained by Delhi Police from his residence in Sector 56, Gurugram, on Saturday morning ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) planned protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

According to information provided, police entered Rathee’s residence at 7.48 am after his mother opened the door. Around 50 police personnel had reportedly gathered outside the house late Friday night.

Rathee was expected to participate in the CJP protest, which is demanding accountability from the Election Commission over the SIR exercise and calling for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

The reported detention comes amid heightened security arrangements in the national capital ahead of the demonstration.

Further details about the circumstances of Rathee’s detention, the legal grounds for the action and his current whereabouts were not immediately available.
