Actor Imran Khan asked to leave India for attending protest against CEC

Actor Imran Khan, known for his role has been asked to leave India by October 28, days after participating in a protest in Mumbai demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, according to a report by The Indian Express.

Khan, an American citizen who holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, was detained by Mumbai Police on October 10 during a demonstration at August Kranti Maidan linked to demands for accountability over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The development followed a demand by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya for action against the actor, alleging that his participation in the protest violated rules applicable to foreign nationals and OCI cardholders.

Khan, however, said he had attended the demonstration as a resident of Mumbai and not as a representative of any political organisation.
